Initial Histories and
Interview
This unique health evaluation process in our office
assures you of the most fully in-depth and comprehensive exam you will ever
have. The process is performed by Dr. Strait who
identifies the patient/client's awareness of dental health, previous
negative experiences which may require help or special care, health
orientation, understanding and desire for preventing future problems and
obtaining optimum health.
The initial interview process
helps us understand and build a relationship based on trust and care that the patient/client
desires with the doctor.
The medical history
identifies any health or other problems which may affect the outcome or
quality of care received by the patient.
The dental history identifies
significant dental treatment and/or neglect of dental care the patient has
had in the past. It ascertains if and why teeth were lost, family history,
sensitivities of the teeth to hot, cold, sweets or acids, previous
orthodontic care, home care and habits, the possible presence of food
impaction areas, bruxism, previous periodontal treatment and any concern
with offensive breath or unpleasant taste in the mouth.
Oral Examination
Examination is done utilizing direct fiber
optic lighting with Quadrilite and the most advanced Surgical Telescopes, which enables us to totally examine all aspects of the
teeth and mouth without missing any small details which might be missed with a traditional
visual exam.
X-rays (Diagnostic)
Our office use the safest
radiograph technology out today. Our paralleling x-ray technique utilizing a
long-cone-paralleling technique reduces standard x-rays by as much as 90%.
Panographic x-rays are
also available which enable us to look at all the structures of the jaw, upper and lower,
including the temporomandibular joint with minimal distortion and minimal x-ray
exposure.
Our
technology completely eliminates any radiation exposure to any other area than the teeth and totally eliminates
the real need for lead aprons or fear of exposure by women who are pregnant, etc.
(although we do use lead aprons for their psychological value). In fact, the radiation
received from a complete x-ray series (16 films) is only equal to what you would get in a
week at home from normal background radiation (without TV, microwave, computer terminal,
etc.) Ask for a copy of the research supporting the very low x-ray exposure of
our new technology.
